The August 2009 edition of Stamp Magazine has covered the  Trial of the Gold machin Horizon Postage Label  at Camden Town with a picture on the front cover and a detailed article inside! As titled ‘Shock New Machin Variety goes on trial’.

‘SmartStamp’ Style Post and Go Labels Go-Live

In a further quest towards a unified set of labels and to aid operational processing, Post and Go kiosks yesterday(30th June 2009) started to be upgraded to print labels that conform to the existing ‘smartstamp’ format.

Mint Machin Head Label Sheetlets

The above images show the new ‘Machin Head Horizon labels’ which are printed in sheetlets of two -each being reversed, prior to inserting into the Epson inkjet counter printer for the ‘SD’ Overprint at the pointof posting.

New De La Rue Horizon Machin Head Labels

Commencing 8th June 2009, The UK Post Office commenced an hitherto unannounced trial of a ‘Horizon label’ incorporating a Machin head. This new label, printed by De La Rue was a gold label incorporating a new type of security slit design, described as ‘thumbnail’ .

The purpose of this trial was to establish the ‘usability’ of such labels in a busy operational environment (Camden Town High St Crown Office, London NW1) with a view to a future rollout of the new design labels to further products (This initial trial was limited to all items posted by Royal Mail Special Delivery (Either the 1pm or 9am service).
