Post and Go ~ Faststamps~ British Garden Birds Series 2

The second issue of Royal Mail pictorial “Post and Go” stamps, to be issued on 24th January 2011, shows six more British garden birds.

This issue shows (In the order that they are printed on the machine-vended strip):- Collared dove,  Greenfinch , Blackbird,  Magpie, Long-tailed Tit  and Chaffinch.

The stamps are available in two different versions :-Firstly as as a sheet of six different stamps all with ‘1st Class’ press- printed directly from Royal Mail in Edinburgh and secondly, the ‘real’ machine printed  versions (available from

31 different outlets

) with five different overprints.

The Machine printed versions are cut every fifth stamp. The third set of British birds is scheduled for issue in May and the fourth in September 2011 .

The image shows the set of six, with Ludgate Circus self-service facility kiosk No.4 overprint, which was available for the first day of issue only.

Birds Faststamps fly at Stampex

The first pictorial “faststamps” went live today at Stampex as well as 31 other Offices and proved to be very popular with collectors both old and new.

A queue formed early on at the Post & Go machine at Stampex and continued for most of the day. European dealers flew in specially for the event and purchased the maximum possible within their 15 min allocated slot. Some collectors were slightly puzzled by the options available to them, as the Royal Mail literature had only offered the 1st Class  preprinted variants via mail order , so many believed that this was also the only option available to them from the kiosk , were but soon got the hang of things  when assisted by fellow collectors and staff. A big success!

Wincor-Nixdorf Sucessful Post&Go Live

The first pair of Wincor-Nixdorf Propostal machines sucessfully went live at “The Galleries” branch in Bristol  today, after some inital teething problems and adjustments.

Much interest from around the world has been generated by the UK Post Office adoption of the latest ATM stamp technology as most (if not all) of the labels and faststamps issued on the first day were snapped up by collectors eagly awaiting  the machines introduction.

However, it is undeniable that the new automated self-service will be the quickest and simplest way to send mail and buy stamps in Post&Go branches.

Customers can purchase labels that can be used immediately or fastsamps that can  taken away for subsequent use.

All customers need do is place their item on the scale and follow the on-screen step-by-step instructions to send their item initally paying with cash with a future option of card payments for transactions over £2.00.
