Hastings Old Town “Essentials” Post and Go kiosk is on the move..

. . Thanks to a correspondent to this blog, who has reported that the Post and Go kiosk installed at the Premier store at Hastings, Old Town in 2008 was this week removed for  installation in ‘pastures new’ In latter times it appeared to be rather ‘unloved’ hidden behind some crisp boxes and rather under utilised~ This is a great shame as the mantra here obviously is ‘use it or lose it’ and it appears that the good citizens of Hastings, Old Town have lost their machine. It just remains to be seen where this particular kiosk ‘resurfaces’- watch this space.

London treasure hunt provides fruitful for Faststamp collectors!

Many faststamp/ATM collectors took the opportunity to visit the various ‘upgraded’ Post and Go Locations  across central London today,  with impressive results. Firstly the Post and Go self-serve facility at Ludgate/Tudor Street provided an unannounced source of pictorial Faststamps having been provided by the Post Office for dealers to obtain large quantities of labels, without impacting other ‘usual’ customers (Ludgate has four Post and Go kiosks and so has capacity for such a facility).

However, much more spectacularly the ‘No 1 ‘ kiosk at the City Of London branch office provided an opportunity to obtain examples of labels where the software upgrade had not been applied successfully and even corrupted the overprint producing a stunning ‘missing  weight’ variant.

Birds Faststamps fly at Stampex

The first pictorial “faststamps” went live today at Stampex as well as 31 other Offices and proved to be very popular with collectors both old and new.

A queue formed early on at the Post & Go machine at Stampex and continued for most of the day. European dealers flew in specially for the event and purchased the maximum possible within their 15 min allocated slot. Some collectors were slightly puzzled by the options available to them, as the Royal Mail literature had only offered the 1st Class  preprinted variants via mail order , so many believed that this was also the only option available to them from the kiosk , were but soon got the hang of things  when assisted by fellow collectors and staff. A big success!

Faststamps go pictorial with countrywide ‘Birds’ launch.

Some of the UK’s favourite garden birds will appear on new Post & Go pictorial stamps available from 17 September in 30 Post Office® branches across the UK and Tallents House.

The Garden Birds Post & Go stamps are the first in the Birds of Britain series of pictorial stamps issued by Post & Go terminals, a self service facility which allows customers to weigh their letters and packets, and pay for and print postage labels.

Initially the Garden Birds Post & Go stamps will be available from Post & Go terminals in 30 branches –as wells as at Autumn Stampex  – with the second set in the Birds of Britain series being available from all Post & Go terminals from next year.

The first Post & Go machine was installed at The Galleries Post Office in Bristol in 2007; since then over 170 terminals have been installed in around 100 branches.

Philip Parker, Royal Mail Stamps spokesperson, said: “Birds have long been one of the most popular thematic subjects and for this first set of pictorial Post & Go Stamps we wanted to celebrate the beauty and variety of the UK’s birdlife, starting with the birds that are frequently seen in gardens.

“To assist our selection, we referred to the results of the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch to choose six of the most commonly seen birds, which best reflect the wide range of species gracing both rural and city skies.”

Kate Stephens was commissioned to produce the designs which were illustrated by wildlife artist Robert Gillmor.
